JOURNEY TO THE DIVINE
is based on the desire to meet or go back to our Creator. At some point in life we have likely asked ourselves, what is the purpose of life? Why am I here? What do I want to do with my time here? How can I walk a path that’ll eventually lead me to my Creator and eternal peace.
The underlying spiral in this work is a visual representation of an illuminated pathway for those who wish to embark on a journey back to the Divine.
THE SPIRAL -
A universal cosmic symbol, emphasising the coming to and from a source; the point where creation begins and ends. It signifies the idea that all of creation emerges from one supreme point and returns to it. Depending on how the spiral is depicted, it is always either moving outwards into creation or inwards back to its point of creation, in other words, back to its Creator.
In this work, a spiralling vine moves from the center outward and is adorned with beautiful foliage and flowers inspired by patterns seen through the eastern world in Qurans and Mosques. The circling spiral can be seen as a path for the birds to move along and by staying on and not straying from this path, they have been enlightened by divine knowledge and wisdom
By continuing their journey along this path, the birds found a source of connection and meaning; they found themselves grounded and rooted to what their souls recognise as truth. The birds were not perfect and they deviated from the path, but as long as they searched for the light, it was always bright enough to bring them back.
They were safe and destined to complete the circle, to return to a place they had once belonged a long long time ago.
